Sacred Heart Catholic School
Mrs. Susan Paiva
I am a product of Catholic education, having graduated from Our Lady of the Assumption Elementary School, and Loretto High School in Sacramento. From there, I went to Sac State (go Hornets) where I majored in French and History, and met my husband-to-be. I got married shortly after graduation, traipsed all over California after my retail-manager husband, and didn’t get my teaching credential until after our daughters were born. My first day at Sacred Heart was my older daughter’s first day of kindergarten in 1998.
I knew I would be a teacher when I was 14 years old. Despite my years in other employment, school has always been my home. Helping children see and understand new things and facilitating their progress is my raison d’etre. To be able to do so in a Catholic school where God is present and where we can talk about him is indeed a gift. Knowing the children for all of their nine years here helps me as their teacher in their last three. Preparing children to succeed in high school is my mission, and I’m very lucky to be able to do so here.
Outside of school, my husband and I enjoy spending time with our far-flung family. When we’re lucky enough to have them all home, we love to cook and eat together. We travel to see them, too; one annual trip is to Nashville, where our 2 grandsons live. Our furry children have us outside daily — look for us on Sacred Heart’s front grass in the evenings, throwing balls for our border collies. On those rare occasions where my time is all my own, I read. My guilty pleasure is historical fiction.
