Pre-K is taught by a number of wonderful teachers including: Monica Jacobs, Emeli Rodriguez, Theresa Rothstein, Jazmin Salazar, Peggy Smith, and Andrea Waibl.

Monica Jacobs

I was born and raised in San Jose. I attended Piedmont Hills High School, San Jose City College and Evergreen Valley College. While in college, I worked for CDI/CDC, a preschool and after school program. I started with them at the age of 18, and knew this was the field I belonged in. I continued my education, and was promoted from Teacher to Assistant Site Supervisor. I served in that capacity for 4 years until we moved our family to Patterson.

We arrived in Patterson in 2006, when the plan was that I would be a stay-at-home mom to our 3 children. Soon, I returned to the same company, but in their Tracy location. I was with them until my youngest daughter was born, and stayed home until 2012. That’s when I found my home here at Sacred Heart Catholic School. I am blessed with great co-workers, amazing families, and wonderful students.

While not at work, I am busy with my husband and children. I have one son in middle school, two sons and a daughter at Apricot Valley and my youngest is in preschool here at Sacred Heart. The kids are all involved in sports programs in town, which keeps us all very busy through the year. In our spare time, we enjoy going to Giants’ games and being outdoors. We love to take weekend trips to Disneyland and to the beach.

Emeli Rodriguez

I am 20 years old and have lived in Patterson for 5 years. I graduated from Patterson High School in 2013, and currently am a student at CSU Stanislaus, majoring in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Child Development. I hope to graduate in 2018.

When I was in elementary school, I was very fortunate with many amazing teachers. From that moment, I realized that someday I, too, would like to become a teacher. I volunteered in my brother’s classroom since he was in 4th grade and loved every moment. In high school, I tutored children between the ages of 9 and 13. I am lucky now to be a preschool aide at Sacred Heart Catholic Preschool, where I get to be doing something related to my career path and my religion.

Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, as well as trying new things and having fun adventures. I enjoy cooking and baking, and spending time with my boyfriend of three years. I am the oldest of three, and like to do fun things with my brother and little sister. I love to spend time at the beach, and hope someday to be able to live in Monterey.

Theresa Rothstein

I went to Catholic High School in Hayward. I then moved to San Francisco to obtain my BA in Psychology with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education at San Francisco State University. I met my husband, David, my last semester, and we married in 2005. We welcomed our boys in April, 2006 and our next son in August, 2007.

Working with children has always been my calling. I became an aunt to twins when I was in 3rd grade, and absolutely loved caring for them. I began working in the preschool field in 2000 as a preschool aide. As I furthered my education, I quickly moved up to lead teacher. My passion for working with children continued to grow with each class. I began teaching at Sacred Heart when my youngest started Kindergarten, and my older two were in 1st grade, all at Sacred Heart. I was offered the Director position the following year. I have an amazing staff that has grown tremendously in the last three years. We have been given the gift of loving, caring for and helping the children learn through play, all while enriching our Catholic faith.

Aside from work, I stay busy with my boys. We rotate sports from basketball to baseball to cross country and golf, flag football, swim team and everything in between. We take summer road trips, and have visited the Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Utah. We visit a new ball park each summer and hope to see them all before our children are grown. We spent one Easter in Puerto Rico where we walked through a rain forest, and another in Cabo San Lucas, where we did absolutely nothing but swim in the ocean. We love spending time with our extended family on the East Coast. When I have alone time, I enjoy bingeing on Netflix.

Jazmin Salazar

I am from Newman, California, where I graduated from Orestimba High School. I went to San Diego State University, where I studied child and family development, women’s studies and completed Early Childhood Education courses.

I have been working with children for many years. In the three years I worked with elementary school aged children at a low income school, I discovered my passion for education. Next I tutored English and Math for Patterson Joint Unified School District. I was then blessed to become part of the staff at Sacred Heart Catholic Preschool. I had always wanted to teach in a Catholic school; it is a real blessing to be part of such a dynamic team.

I enjoy traveling to new places and spending time with my family. I am very fortunate to have my entire family living close by, and to be able to see the first grandchild in our family grow up. I grew up in the country and find it peaceful to be able to take long walks in the evening and to watch the sunset. There is no place I would rather be.

Peggy Smith

I grew up in the Bay Area, where I worked at many preschools after completing my Early Childhood Education at San Jose City College. When my first daughter was 2, I decided to run my own daycare so I could be with her as well. After having a second child and outgrowing little duplex, we came to Patterson in 1996. My husband commuted there, so we were able to buy a house for our expanding family; our family of 4 soon became a family of 5. I was fortunate enough to be home with my children while they were young thanks to my wonderful husband.

In 2000, I applied to Sacred Heart Catholic Preschool, and began teaching here that August. Over 12 years, many children, parents and teachers taught me what it was like to have a family at work. I left in 2012 to get my BA in Early Childhood Education, which had been a dream for a long time. After finishing school, I worked for Head Start in Modesto, another wonderful, family-oriented school district. However, I was not teaching and missed it dearly.

In 2015, I was offered a position back where I started, and I couldn’t think of one reason not to return. So here I am, back where I began.

Andrea Waibl

I grew up here in Patterson, attending every school in Patterson, including Sacred Heart Catholic School. I graduated from Patterson High School, and attended Modesto Junior College. I studied many different subjects, including religion, agriculture, medicine, debate and psychology.

After completing my course work, I decided that education was the best fit for me, and was very excited to be offered a position here at SHCP in 2012. Teaching these amazing children is a true blessing. I enjoy every moment, and each day brings something new. My fellow teachers are awesome ladies, and we work as a team to enrich our preschool program to make it better each year.

At home, I enjoy being with family, shopping, and travel. My trip to Thailand was a highlight of my travel experiences; I learned so much about such a different culture. My husband and I also enjoy going to the beach and antiquing. We have one daughter and two dogs. We love going to church in Oakdale; being part of the church is an important part of our family’s life.
