Curriculum At Sacred Heart Catholic School, Catholic education encompasses more than the basics of academics. In Catholic Education, we are interested in the student as a unified whole; the development of mind, body, emotions, and spirit. However, Catholic education encompasses something more. It includes being in relationship with others, being in relationship with God, being in relationship with nature, and being in true relationship with ourselves.
Beginning in pre-school and continuing through eighth grade, the curriculum includes instruction in the following areas: religion, social studies, language arts (including oral and written communications), computers, handwriting, Saxon math program, science, health, safety, fine arts, and physical education. Family life education is included with the religion curriculum, and content is grade specific. Spanish is also included in the curriculum for grades six through eight. Additionally, the curriculum includes instruction at all levels on: personal and public safety, accident prevention, fire prevention, conservation, health education and AIDS education. As a member of the Diocese of Stockton, Sacred Heart Catholic School administers the Iowa Test of Basic Skills to students each fall. In addition to the ITBS, students are given a religion component which is scored with the standardized exam. The purpose of education is more than an accumulation of knowledge - it serves the attainment of wisdom.
